Ensuring your child’s comfort and safety during dental procedures is our top priority. For children who experience significant anxiety or require extensive dental work, IV sedation can be an effective solution. Dr. David Gustafson, Dr. David Gustafson and our associates will discuss IV sedation with you during your child’s initial consultation to determine if it is the right choice, and will review what you can expect if your child receives this form of sedation
Before Your Childs Sedation Appointment
- Health and Medical Conditions: Notify our team of any changes in your child’s health or existing medical conditions. If your child is experiencing any illness, we may need to reschedule their appointment to ensure their safety.
- Medications and Allergies: Inform us about any medications your child is currently taking, any allergic reactions they have had to medications and any recent changes in their medical history.
- Comfortable Clothing: Dress your child in loose, comfortable clothing to help them feel more at ease.
- Restroom Use: Ensure your child uses the restroom before their appointment to avoid discomfort during the procedure.
- Diet Restrictions: Do not give your child any milk or solid food after midnight the night before the appointment. In the six hours leading up to the appointment, only clear liquids are allowed. Avoid greasy, fatty or fried foods before the procedure.
- Asthma Inhalers: If your child uses an asthma inhaler, make sure to bring it with you.
Remember, as the child’s legal guardian, you must be present in our office for the entire duration of the procedure.
After Your Child’s Sedation Appointment
